Injury Management Assessor

JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking an experienced Injury Management Assessor to manage the end-to-end injury management and workers compensation function for Council’s self-insurance licence. This includes managing complex physical and psychological claims, developing early intervention strategies, and delivering expert occupational health and wellbeing advice to promote a healthy and resilient workforce.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing workers compensation claims from start to finish, ensuring compliance with NSW legislation, SIRA requirements, and Council policies.
- Developing and implementing Injury Management Plans, reviewing treatment requests, and facilitating early and safe return to work.
- Maintaining accurate claims records, analysing trends, and preparing reports to support continuous improvement.
- Proactively engaging with injured workers, supervisors, medical practitioners, and other stakeholders to drive prompt and positive outcomes.
- Acting as a key escalation point for high complexity claims and providing coaching and mentoring to the claims team.
This role is offered as a 6-month temporary assignment with a high expectation of extension or conversion to a permanent role for the right candidate.
ABOUT YOU
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Allied Health degree and/or equivalent experience in injury management and workers compensation claims for a self-insured organisation.
- SIRA endorsed Return to Work Certificate and current C Class Licence.
- Extensive experience (5+ years) managing complex physical and psychological claims in NSW Self Insurance environments.
- Strong understanding of NSW Workers Compensation legislation, Injury Management, and SIRA requirements.
- Proven ability to make evidence-based decisions, manage sensitive information with integrity, and deliver proactive, high-quality service to stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate databases, analyse claims data, and provide actionable insights.
Desirable: Experience in local government or large public sector self-insured organisations, qualifications in legal or rehabilitation disciplines.
